Mr. Ciarán Breen:

That cost of care with inflation is going up. Committee members can imagine that is a significant element of any catastrophic injuries claim to compensate in future. General damages are staying at a level that is pretty much capped by the court at €450,000.

The balance of all those claims comprises the cost of care to the point when one is settling, or past care, and then the cost of future care. In some of these cases one might need all-round nursing care; one might need two or three carers per day. All of that has to be costed and paid.
