Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment

National Broadband Plan: Discussion

Ms Michele Connolly:

The value of the infrastructure at the end of the 25 years is going to be a function of whatever the actual revenue and operating costs are going to be at that time. It has already been mooted in earlier sittings that the revenue of the vehicle at that time could be in the order of €150 million. I assess that as being a little high, but as the costs to operate this entity are quite significant, I am not in a position to put a figure on the terminal value clawback. This is not a business that has a very significant degree of inherent profitability and the reason for this intervention in the first place is it is not commercially viable for the private sector to do it on its own.
