Direct Provision and the International Protection Application Process: Discussion

Ms Mary Henderson:

Perhaps I could respond to that. It will depend on how the person has come into the system. A person may have lodged an application for international protection, may subsequently have been referred into the national referral mechanism and been provided with advices, and may then seek to be recognised as a victim of trafficking. At that point, they are faced with a decision as to which system may suit them better. In either event, they will still be accommodated in direct provision. As Mr. Killoran was saying, our focus is on the victims of trafficking who are being housed in direct provision.
