Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach

Business of Joint Committee
Matters Relating to the Banking Sector: Permanent TSB

Mr. Jeremy Masding:

When I talk about a mature conversation, the Deputy will understand, I hope, that my duty is to ensure all of the facts are put in front of the Central Bank to ensure that the fine is based on the actual facts that are provided. That is the only point I am making. If I gave him the impression in some degree that it is a negotiation, then I apologise. I did not mean to do that. My point was we should be professional in the way that we work with our regulator; we will be. We will put all of the facts in front of them and then the fine is the fine but the point of principle is that we should be fined.
