Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

CervicalCheck Screening Programme Update: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Damien McCallion:

The report was circulated to the committee. We did an update on the condition for the 221 group which we provided to it and then circulated it to others. I have met with many of the group. That is not to say that many people do not face emotional, psychological and other impacts from their cancer. If one puts 221 women and their families into a room – remembering some of them are deceased – the impact of cervical cancer is stark, irrespective of anything to do with audits and the impacts on people. We recognise that. The report set out the clinical condition for people. That was published in conjunction with the 221 group.
