I understand that, on an ongoing basis, there is a public procurement process which is very detailed and which has to be dealt with in a very clever way. However, we are dealing with a backlog of 80,000 tests. In the context of finding temporary additional capacity to ensure that the women involved get their results on time, what is the problem?

Are international providers nervous about dealing with Ireland? Are they asking for prices the State is not willing to pay or for indemnity against risk it is not willing to provide? It appears that a person willing to pay privately can get access almost immediately.
