Joint Standing Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge (Atógáil): An Roinn Talmhaíochta, Bia agus Mara

Mr. Guy Mahon:

I wish to clarify what I said about An Daingean and Ros an Mhíl. Those two offices are fishery harbour centres. Obviously, the staff in question are based at the harbours. This is completely separate from agricultural inspections. My point is that the Department physically has two offices within Gaeltacht locations. There are 13 staff based in those offices, ten of whom are fully functionally bilingual and three of whom are conversationally bilingual. That was the point I was making about the two fishery harbour centres. We have three agricultural inspectors, including Ms Joyce, who conduct inspections in Irish.
