Although loan sales have been important in the past year, it must be emphasised that Ireland has been a leader through the code of conduct on mortgage arrears, CCMA, in encouraging restructuring. Many mortgages have been restructured. It has been a large success and explains why repossession rates have been quite low in an international context.
