Joint Standing Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge (Atógáil): Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte

Mr. Paul Connors:

That went through our leadership team only in the past week. With some caveats, it will be approved. The Chair's question is very good, but it relates to a body of work we will have to conduct. What Mr. Mac Aodha Bhuí is referring to is the fact that we are finding it difficult to get, for example, GPs who can work through Irish in many of these areas. It is a gap that we are going to have to analyse over the next period in terms of the real demand for particular specialties. The question the Chair asked is very valid on how many social workers we need in those areas. It is not just a question of Galway, on which Mr. Mac Aodha Bhuí focused. Mr. Ó Coileáin might be able to provide more context for Munster. That is work we will have to do through the strategy. We will have to do more work on it. We do not have that analysis right now.
