Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health
National Children's Hospital: Discussion (Resumed)
Simon Harris (Wicklow, Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
In fairness, if we commission external reports to follow the evidence, that is what we will do. We will come back and share all of the information with the committee. In my earlier answers to Deputy Donnelly, I outlined there are opportunities to try to mitigate costs. I have spoken about the existing assets in place, Crumlin hospital being one. I have also spoken about the role of philanthropy and there is nothing Irish-specific in that. Philanthropy in the delivery of children's healthcare is quite the norm in many countries, including in our neighbouring jurisdiction. A foundation has been established. On both sides of the ledger there are issues that need to be bottomed out.
