Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

Lyme Disease: Discussion

9:00 am

Dr. John Lambert:

As it was misrepresented as a treatment centre, there has been significant push-back. It has been clarified that it is not a treatment centre but I believe there should be one. People should not be obliged to leave the country. More resources should be put into better understanding this disease and making sure everybody can access new diagnostics and better treatments for Lyme disease. There is a need for the HSE and the Department to prioritise this as a disease of significance because it is affecting lots of people.
