Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

Lyme Disease: Discussion

9:00 am

Ms Kerry Lawless:

That is probably contested by the people in this room. In terms of patient support groups, we would say to look at the GP champion in the UK who has an expertise there, to look at people through the French system who are setting up the centres of excellence and to look at people, such as Dr. Lambert, who have that sort of experience. The more fundamental point is, if one trains up GPs and gives this new skill set and if they still come up against this set of guidelines which restrict care and deny the existence of late-stage complications in chronic Lyme disease and still fly in the face of what the World Health Organization is now doing, we are stymied again.
