Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation

Ireland's Skills Needs: Discussion (Resumed)

4:00 pm

Mr. Paddy Power:

I can only speak for the insurance apprenticeship but I cannot speak highly enough of it. I cannot speak highly enough of how I am treated by SOLAS, IT Sligo, the Insurance Institute of Ireland and especially my employer. The employer really has to engage with the apprentice and with SOLAS and the Insurance Institute of Ireland. I am very well looked after and am given many different things to study. If I need extra time to study, or whatever support I need, it is only one question away and I get it every single time. While I do not know about those in other brokerages, I have worked in three or four different departments in the brokerage in two and a half years, so I have different department experience in one industry in just a short amount of time. I really get to see the industry from a broad horizon. I do not want to come here and just tell the committee how good it is but that is my personal experience. I cannot speak highly enough of the process.
