Dr. Mark Mellett:

We are in tranche 1 of PESCO and we are involved in two projects. One is dealing with maritime surveillance which is very appropriate given the size of our maritime domain. The issue around maritime surveillance is we need to be smart in terms of how we apply limited assets over and area of 1 million sq. km. We can benefit from engagement with the collaborative network that PESCO would provide in terms of development and new ways of doing things. It would mean we are more efficient. The other project is very much linked to training which is an area that is a Defence Forces' meat and two vegetables. It is looking at a training centre of competence and how we can learn and develop these centres of competence in a manner that allows us to deliver training to the best of our ability.
