Joint Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development
Sustaining Small Rural and Community Business: Discussion
10:30 am
Mr. Seamus Boland:
We have a big problem on rates and in rural Ireland. Deputy Fitzmaurice had a very good idea. We should stop worrying about assemblies that meet in Dublin. Get one to discuss rural matters and let us deal with those issues where they matter because it was in Deputy Fitzmaurice's county that we were hit last year when we had some meetings. I can tell him that we were the one's being accused of selling out. If we are selling out I do not know what the rest are doing. We need to solve the problems of broadband and of carbon, and we can do it. Rural dwellers brought in water, managed to bring in electricity and brought in a lot of services. They will do the same with this. Give them a chance.
