I understand how these decisions were made. From a medical perspective, any screening programme involves a balance of risks and benefits. The benefits are that something is picked up at pre-cancer stage and there is intervention. The risks involve false negatives and false positives, whereby something is found and someone is subjected to further investigation and treatment but it subsequently turns out to be insignificant.
