There is also a common sense view in favour of maintaining social housing stock in terms of the public investment made in it. Where the tenant purchase scheme is not available, it is sold at a discount. That is for good policy reasons, but there is a cost associated with it. Any extension of the tenant purchase scheme would have a cost implication attached to it.
