Mr. McCarthy referred to Rebuilding Ireland. Why is the credit policy governing loan approval decisions a secret? Why is this information not available to any member of the public or to public representatives? I tabled a parliamentary question and asked for a copy of said policy because I wanted to be able to explain to people why they did not get loan approval but it is a secret. Why is that the case? It affects people's lives and it is not fair for a public body to have a secret document. My local authority has informed me that it is a secret and that I am not entitled to see it. I have asked a parliamentary question and have been told it is a secret. I also raised it as a Topical Issue a number of months ago but the answer I got was "No hope". Will Mr. John McCarthy explain why the decision-making process around approving loans is secret?
