Joint Standing Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands

Forbairt agus Todhchaí Raidió na Gaeltachta

4:00 pm

Mr. Jim Jennings:

That is exactly what has happened and the director general who was at the Committee on Communication, Climate Action and Environment last week said that it was 150 in the first phase of this year and that she will be looking for another significant number of people next year to make cost cutting. It is impacting across all of our services. To be honest, it is not a place where any of us want to be. In our belief, a public service broadcaster is funded to do what it is mandated to do through the Broadcasting Act 2009, but I have said before that if that is not the case then there needs to be a dialogue and discussion on what the future shape of public service broadcasting will look like. Otherwise we will fast be reaching a point where we will no longer be able to provide some of the services that we currently do.
