Joint Standing Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands

Forbairt agus Todhchaí Raidió na Gaeltachta

4:00 pm

Mr. Jim Jennings:

That is something I can certainly take back with me.

When the Deputy was talking about documentaries, what is interesting is that we have recently co-located our "Documentary on One" production team for Radio One, which is a multi-award winning documentary team, with our documentary team in television and they are working together across platforms doing content on radio, television and also creating for online. Listening to the conversation today, it should not be beyond the bounds of possibility that we start looking at whether we can produce Irish language versions of documentaries. It is something we see as we break down the silos. The organisation had been very siloed previously, where people in radio would not produce content for television. We see the manner in which media consumption is going these days which we all experience within our own lives, with what our children are doing and consuming, and we realise that those silos and barriers are now gone. We need to be very clever about how we produce our content and need to work more across platforms and look at more opportunities to create different types of content for all of our stations.

I think the Deputy is correct and I will take that back with me and talk to the documentary section about that.
