Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs

Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed)

9:30 am

Ms Joan Martin:

I am generally not a fan of a one-size-fits-all approach because it is important that local circumstances are dealt with and at any given point in time, depending on who is elected to the council, different councillors will come on board and it can be seen that when there is a new council, it has new priorities. At the moment I have a couple of councillors who are particularly interested in disability issues so that will inevitably become more of a priority. We were the first age friendly county but the Deputy will be pleased to know that every county in Ireland is now age friendly. If I may, I will contradict what the Deputy said about encouraging people to move out to rural areas.
