Sláintecare Implementation Strategy: Discussion

9:00 am

Professor Steve Thomas:

The one about which we have been talking is ensuring more healthcare professionals in the primary and community care setting. Sláintecare looks to expand by about 5,000 - 6,000 in its entirety - the number of occupational therapists and public health nurses, but I do not see any indication that that element has been taken on board. The staffing of primary and community care settings is the critical component that will unlocks so much else if we want to move from providing care in acute care settings. That has to be a priority, but I do not see it being picked up on.
