Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

Hospital Services: Discussion (Resumed)

9:00 am

Waiting lists have always been a feature of the Irish health service. However, the waiting list problem now is huge, with over 700,000 people on waiting lists. Capacity is the issue. In the same period in which those waiting lists grew, the system took out 1,600 beds. It did not increase its medical workforce.
