There is a significant backlog in renewal applications for permission to remain. I emphasise I am talking about renewing applications for permission to remain as the spouse of an Irish national. I know of one case where the applicant has been waiting nine months for a decision. I emphasise this is a renewal application where there has already been permission given. Why would there be such an inordinate delay in determining the application in that instance?
