The position of subcontractors is an industry-wide issue. While former Senator Feargal Quinn's Construction Contracts Act has helped contractors, it is not bulletproof. It has added some protection and, as we have heard anecdotally, it has helped, but perhaps more might be done. Improve the legislation covering payments to a subcontractor would be a matter for the Oireachtas.
