Two reports were produced recently. One was from the internal Garda audit, which carried out an audit on how many gardaí were on front-line duty on a particular day - obviously it defined what constitutes such duty - and established that only 44% of officers were out on front-line duty. The second report, from the Road Safety Authority, stated that when individuals were stopped by gardaí at the roadside, the latter did not have the ability to assess - by looking at licences - whether drivers had been disqualified. Will infrastructure be introduced to enable the Garda Commissioner to identify, on a particular day, how many gardaí are on front-line duty? The force had to carry out an audit to establish the figure. Will there be infrastructure to enable members of An Garda Síochána to determine whether an individual who has been stopped has been disqualified from driving?
