Dr. Tony Holohan:

We have already been asked that question. The answer is that when we became aware, the Minister's focus and our focus was exactly the same, that was, to establish the facts, get on top of the issue and try to manage as best we could. I was directly involved in establishing the senior incident management team, establishing the information that came to light over the weekend when that senior incident management team established that there were 46 cases out of 208. That information all came out on a Sunday evening. Leading on from that, it was a matter of establishing the true facts of the situation, which, unfortunately, became clear only shortly before Dáil statements on the Tuesday evening, which I am sure Deputy Alan Kelly can recall, and, over the course of that week, trying to shape and put into place the scoping inquiry, the clinical audit process and all those kinds of arrangements. The focus was to manage it. As I said earlier, our job, as we see it, was not to push materials up the line per se.
