Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs
Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed)
9:30 am

I read a report recently that argued that of children entering secondary school, boys were 32% fitter than girls. The figure rose to 41%. Do we need to look at the curriculum to encourage girls? Is there a problem with girls taking part in PE? Is it that the curriculum is not attractive to girls - possibly because it involves contact sport? Can any of the witnesses tell me about their experience regarding fast food outlets beside schools? Do they think this is a problem? What is their opinion of the "no-fry zone" campaign?
