Personal Assistant Services for Individuals with a Disability: Discussion

1:30 pm

Ms Patsy Carr:

Yes. On the adequacy of service provision and the number of people in receipt of 0 to 5 hours, as I said, service provision is dependent on the person's needs. That level of service is sufficient for some people. I am not a clinician but much is dependent on a person's need. At the other end, a person may require 60 hours service provision and this must be considered as well. On the Senator's question of whether the Department thinks this level of service provision is adequate, the Department does not think anything is adequate. What we are doing is dividing up what we have and the HSE is providing based on need. The HSE is funded to provide 1.5 million hours and it has to work within that level of provision.
