Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality

Garda Oversight and Accountability: Policing Authority

9:00 am

Ms Josephine Feehily:

The Deputy is mixing up apples and oranges. The working group is about completing a review of homicides. The issue around amending the PULSE system, improving data quality, and managing the risks to future victims right across the crime spectrum, is an ongoing issue.

The working group will not fix that issue. It will continue to look review files, cases and data. The much more important piece in terms of future potential victims is the improvement by the Garda Síochána of the PULSE system, the supervision of entries on the PULSE system and that it insist on certain parts of drop-down menus being completed. This is day-to-day work that is not the job of the working group.
