Public Accounts Committee

Comptroller and Auditor General 2016 Report
Chapter 20: Corporation Tax Receipts (Resumed)

9:00 am

Dr. Brian Keegan:

If they are registered in Ireland, prima faciethey are chargeable to tax in Ireland. However, a significant number of companies are dormant. They might be included in that count. There are a significant number of companies which for various reasons, such as charitable status, might be exempt. Again, I am speaking from memory here but I can verify the figures, I think approximately 60,000 to 70,000 companies are actually paying corporation tax in Ireland. That would seem to be the breakdown.
