Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs
Cybersecurity for Children and Young Adults: Discussion (Resumed)
9:30 am
Ms Lauren Reynolds:
As Ms Muireann Whelan said, it is taking out the social aspect and is affecting the way we are living our lives. It is as though we are living our lives through the lens of a camera rather than in the moment. There are age restrictions and rules in place on social media sites but they are not being followed. Children of eight use websites that have a minimum age guideline of 13. In certain cases, it is down to parents controlling their child's online activity and ensuring these rules are implemented.
