Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport

Road Network: Transport Infrastructure Ireland

9:00 am

Mr. Pat Maher:

I will make a number of points in response to the Deputy's comments. We survey nationally; we also prioritise nationally. We prioritise on the basis of need and condition. We therefore allocate the funding to those areas where it is most needed where the condition indicates that the pavement deterioration warrants it.

I am confident, and we can demonstrate, that the money is going where it is needed.

On the issue, the Deputy quoted Dublin City Council. There are no national roads in the Dublin City Council area bar a very short section between the northern quarter of the port tunnel and the Turnapin interchange. By and large, we have very little funding to give to Dublin city.
