Mr. Peter Finnegan:

Tá súil agam go mbeidh siad réitithe le haghaidh an tsamhraidh seo chugainn. That is our objective for next summer in terms of the committee rooms. I think it is an important development for us as an organisation. With regard to the two-way translation system, I can see the validity and the usefulness of it. In the context of what we are doing, we would have to examine it because it would obviously have resource implications. We would be very happy to look at that facility and, if it is possible, we will endeavour to provide it.

With regard to Bliain na Gaeilge our strategy statement, which we published in 2016, makes a commitment to develop an Irish language strategy. We were trying to follow through on that. We have put together a working group with staff, led by Mr. Uíbh Eachach, the Príomh-Aistritheoir. That group developed the strategy for Bliain na Gaeilge. It is our first attempt at an Irish language strategy and it is something on which we would like to build. The key thing for us now is that we have the strategy developed. The Ceann Comhairle will launch it next month. We now want to fully implement it over the course of the year. It will give us an impetus in terms of developing a further Irish language strategy for 2019 and onwards, which can tie in with our new strategic plan.

We are conscious of the issue of subtitles and broadcasting. As I have said, we have already translated our static content on the web. We would like to do that for the broadcasts and it is our intention to do so. There is some work to do in respect of the technology but we will be looking at it.
