Short of that, my view is that financial transactions are not just private contracts between firms and individuals. We know from the bailout that the taxpayer and society have an underlying foundational role in enabling the financial system to operate. How these firms behave has a very important social dimension. We would be very disappointed that any firm that has a serious presence here in Ireland would not come before the committee to explain its behaviour.
