Tracker Mortgages: Central Bank of Ireland

9:30 am

Mr. Ed Sibley:

Perhaps I have not quite understood the question but we would expect there to be differentiation across products and banks. That represents a degree of consumer choice and is a sign of a healthy system or, at least, a healthier one. Certainly, a couple of years ago one would have seen less choice in the system from a mortgage perspective. That element has improved. There are a number of different products out there, some of which add complexity to the consumer decision that is being made. We are very much pushing the lenders to make sure that there is very clear transparency around the costs associated with those products so that they can be understood but we have a little bit further to go on that.
