Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach
Matters relating to Tracker Mortgage Examination and Consumer Protection Framework: Discussion
9:00 am
Mr. Fergal O'Leary:
I do not have the number of contracts to hand but the information is available in the office. I am happy to send on that detail to the committee after this meeting. In regard to the amount of finance outstanding, I think it is in the region of €800 million. It is important to make the point that the point of first collection of this data was our study. The study shows that this is a very big market. We are working through our report and recommendations but we do feel at this stage that there probably is a case for better regulation and more consumer protection in this area.
