Committee on Budgetary Oversight

Fiscal Assessment Report: Irish Fiscal Advisory Council

2:00 pm

Mr. Seamus Coffey:

No. The price of carbon is not something we have addressed. As with the concerns over PPPs and the permits available, the price was based on forecasts that turned out to be very optimistic. The amount available exceeds anything that would create a higher price. The price of carbon and its input on projects are not matters we have addressed. What we have examined in terms of the fiscal side of the climate change targets is the potential for fines to have an impact on the fiscal outcomes. It looks like they could be very large. We have identified a risk in this regard but we have not addressed the price of carbon itself.
