Professor Eva Pajkrt:
I could not do that. As the Deputy may know, in the United Kingdom it is possible to relieve a woman of parental custody for an hour or so if there is a big danger to the life of the foetus in cases involving psychiatric patients or similar, such as patients who are seeing Jesus in the room. I am aware of that happening on a couple of occasions while I was working in the United Kingdom. That is the only situation in which such action might be permitted. A doctor may not carry out a caesarean section if a woman does not want the procedure, even if not having it would result in the death of the baby.
