Risks to Mental Health of Pregnant Women: Professor Veronica O'Keane

She described them, understandably, as the women left behind. I was particularly taken by the women who did not have the knowledge or access to information as well as those who did not have the money. There is a money element to the pills as well as for travelling to Britain. Let us consider these women. To what extent would it help if we changed the atmosphere? Professor O'Keane said that we can talk about it now. We certainly could not talk about it clearly in 1983. I was one of those who around at the time. What can we do to allow those women to come earlier or to be able to access pills earlier rather than have to contemplate a later abortion? How can we deal with that?

As a practising perinatal psychologist, can Professor O'Keane advise on abortion pills? Can she tell women about how to access them? Is she precluded? Does the eighth amendment stop her in that regard? Can Professor O'Keane give us some clarity on that?
