Lower Lee (Cork City) Flood Relief Scheme: Discussion
1:30 pm
Mr. John Hegarty:
I will start on the width of the tidal barrier. We spoke to the local port authority. Opening bridges have been proposed for the city further up the river. They have 50 m wide openings. Our design and proposal has a 60 m wide opening, which is larger than the 50 m proposed for the rest of the city, which would allow ships of a larger format to get as far as the bridges that are proposed but not get up to the city. The Port of Cork said that a 50 m wide opening in the tidal barrier would be correct so there is no implication for shipping.
