It might also be helpful to understand that we are not there as individuals representing our own personal view. We must sign a contract when we are appointed by Ireland's Head of State, the President, to say that we will - in a non-prejudicial way - sign up to the definition of human rights in the legislation to which we operate and which not only obliges us to consider the rights enumerated in the Constitution but also obliges us to look at human rights identified in any international human rights treaty to which Ireland is a party.
