I wish to express my deep personal gratitude for the opportunity of presenting the audit findings to this committee. There is a reference in my concluding remarks to the fact that the challenge and task of members, as policy makers, is to consider and reflect on the findings of the audit. They are to examine how, working together, the welfare of children, in the difficult circumstances which prompt members of the Garda Síochána to exercise section 12, is placed front and centre.
