Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government

Housing and Rental Market: Discussion (Resumed)

1:30 pm

Mr. Patrick Robinson:

I realise I did not answer Deputy Casey's question about the financial model, which may go some way to answering that question also. Hosts keep 97% of the money they charge. If a person lists his or her spare bedroom tonight they can list the space for €100 and keep €97 of that. As a guest I will pay €106. Airbnb takes a cut from the host and the guest. The fee is 3%, which is actually quite low in comparison to lots of other short-term rental platforms. It is one of the reasons why we have become quite successful.
