Mr. Tony O'Brien:

On the trolleys, there is a particular confounder in that in the last season, we paid particular attention to the phenomenon of persons who experience delayed discharge. We put a lot of money into reducing the number of patients whose discharge had been delayed and that was predominantly, although not exclusively, a Dublin problem. As a result of this effort, this year for the first time the large model-four hospitals, which in Dublin are the five big voluntaries, have seen a significant improvement in their trolley situation whereas the model-three hospitals, some of those with which members might be more familiar and which tend to be smaller, did not have that problem, did not get the benefit of it and, relatively speaking, tended to look worse. What happens on trolleys is not particularly a function of what goes on in the hospital. It is more a function of what goes on in the community around it.
