We have given evidence on a number of occasions regarding our role. While we have not identified any records within the Department relating to the establishment of Sports Field Company Limited or the financial arrangements in the college in the early 1990s, we have said, based on the fact that the Secretary General was the Accounting Officer for the Garda Vote at that point and given our involvement in the Walsh committee, which assistant Commissioner McMahon referenced earlier, and working groups subsequent to the committee to implement that report, we would have been aware of the arrangements as they were established in the college at that time. Mr. Gay Harris has also been referenced today. We have mentioned him previously. An Garda Síochána has supplied us with a document from 1989, which suggests that Mr. Harris, who was the professional accountant in the Department at the time, advised the Garda on investments around surplus funds arising from what was the mess committee at the time, which subsequently morphed into the restaurant.
