The Senator also asked about access to mental health services. It is challenging for foster carers to gain access to mental health services for young people in their care. It requires a high level of advocacy on the part of foster carers to provide access for children to a service which is their right. Children in care are the most vulnerable children in our society and it should be a matter of right for them to receive services rather than having to lobby or advocate for them.
