Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach
Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals
10:00 am
Mr. Pádraig Dalton:
It is not a hard question at all. It all comes down to the intellectual property products. That is where it came from. We appeared in front of this committee last November and we spent two hours talking about it. It comes down to the trend that has existed in Ireland going back to 2011 when we started to see its emergence; the relocation of intellectual property products or intangible assets in to Ireland. The treatment of those assets is very clear in the system of national accounts and in the European system of accounts, the ESA 2010, which are the regulations governing the compilation of national accounts. That is the explanation for that.
