General Scheme of Road Traffic (Fixed Penalty - Drink Driving) Bill 2017: Discussion (Resumed)
1:40 pm
Ms Deirdre Devitt:
We are not aware of anything coming down the line, but in the same way as we are responsible for serving customers in our pub and refusing customers whom we believe to have had too much to drink, it might be useful to monitor how much alcohol people buy in supermarkets per person because a lot of drinking is being done in the home. We have a responsibility on our premises to refuse people if we believe they have too much drink on board. The multiples, however, do not have the same apparent responsibility. Maybe we should see how much alcohol is purchased, particularly in this week, on Holy Thursday in advance of Good Friday.
