General Scheme of Road Traffic (Fixed Penalty - Drink Driving) Bill 2017: Discussion (Resumed)

1:40 pm

Mr. Donall O'Keeffe:

It is fair to say that drink driving would not be as high up the priority list for the LVA as it would be for other associations. I note from the RSA figures that more than 80% of drink driving occurs in rural areas. It is clear that this is a bigger issue outside Dublin. In Dublin, we have public transport and taxi options and population density around pubs which means drink drinking should occur here far less. In our view, there is no excuse for drink driving in a Dublin context. We do not condone drink driving. There is simply no excuse for it in a Dublin context.
